Outline and transcript

0:00 Opening and introduction to Mark 10

Open your Bibles to Mark chapter 10. Mark 10. Some beautiful singing. The the the words of those songs were just to to me drew me to to worship the lord. Mark 10, the this is the key verse of all of Mark verse 45.

We're going look at 32 through 45 but I want to just start by reading that verse for even the son of man did not come to to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many. Wow. This week, preparing for this has been for me something amazing. I've I consider myself blessed that it was my turn when we got to that verse right there. Really fantastic and I only pray that the Holy Spirit would help me to portray what he taught me during the week.

But until then, well, hopefully, it'll work. But let's pray. Father, thank you so much for your word. Thank you for every person here. We pray that the Holy Spirit would teach us.

We ask for his help. That he would bring light to the word and give us conviction and just help us to live that life that would please the lord. Thank you for this day. In Jesus name, amen. Amen.

Alright, it has been a blessing to consider Mark. I'm sure you have benefited greatly from it. So, let's go to chapter 10 and verse 32. We're going to read the fur... Through 34.

I'm going read it in section rather than reading the whole passage. So let's just start with 32 and go through 34. Mark ten thirty two through 34. And they were on the road going to Jerusalem and Jesus was walking on ahead of them and they were amazed and those who followed were fearful. And again, he took the 12 aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to him, saying, behold, we are going up to Jerusalem and the son of man will be delivered to the chief priest and the scribes and they will be condemned...

I'm sorry, and they will condemn him to death and will deliver him to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him and scourge him and kill him. Three days later, he will rise again. Wow. That is tremendous.

So, this is quite possibly one of the most important passages or even verse 45 verses of all the scripture. Many times people look at John three sixteen. I think this is the match of it. Right? So, for god so loved the world that he gave and right here is the son of man came not to be served but to serve and give his life a ransom for many.

So what a what a tremendous truth. We're going to look at three points, very simple. Number one, Jesus predicts his suffering. Number two, the disciples wrangle over wrangle over the top spot. And number three, Jesus came to serve and to give his life a ransom for many, for many.

Okay. So I'm gonna quote an unknown source to start. There's no limit to the good that a man can do if he doesn't care who gets the credit. If you really don't care who gets the credit, then you can just enjoy yourself and do all kinds of good deeds for others. Just be glad that it is done, And don't worry about who gets the credit on earth because your heavenly father knows.

Wow. That's amazing. That's amazing. It's easier to read it than to actually practice it and live it out. But what a tremendous truth.

The whole passage has to do with serving. We're serving. And so since this is true, the the the the text that we were looking at, the key text in verse 45 is, he came not to be served but to serve and to give his life and so, this is the third time in in Mark, this part in verse 32 to 34 that he predicts or he prophesies if you will, his death, what's going to happen. And so he gives these points. He's going to be delivered by Judas Iscariot.

They will condemn him to death. That is the the the Jews, the religious leaders within that mock trial, right? Condemned him to death. Then what did they do? They delivered him over to the Gentiles.

That is the Romans because they couldn't execute the crucifixion, so they had to go through them. They readily agreed, and of course, was gonna be mocked. He was gonna be scourged. He was gonna be killed, and three days later, he was going to rise again. Wow.

And so he says this, this is the third time. Now, what I want you to... Keep that in mind because I'm going to come back to that. So he just revealed all of these things that are going to happen to him, and every one of us would be very summer like thinking, wow, you're going to have to do all that in order for us to be saved. It really makes me reflect.

5:42 James and John ask for places of honor

And he said to them, what do you want me to do for you? And they said to him, grant that we may sit in your glory, one on your right and one on your left. But Jesus said to them, you do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized? And they said to him, we are able.

Jesus said to them, the cup that I drink, you shall drink and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized. But to sit on my right or on my left, that is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared. And in verse 41 is key. Don't miss it. Watch.

And hearing this, the 10 began to feel indignant with James and John. And calling them to himself, Jesus said to them, you know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lorded over them and their great men exercise authority over them. But it is not so among you, amongst you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever wishes to be first among you shall be the slave of all. Right now, in order for us to properly grasp the the full meaning of this, we have to understand the culture and we also have to understand what the disciples were thinking.

Right? So you got a picture that in their mind and in the culture, the Hebrew culture, they were at this particular moment subjects of the Romans. Right? And so they had heard from for years that there's going to be a Messiah coming. He's going to free them from the Romans.

And so that's what their thought was. He's going to come. He's gonna free us. He's gonna be the answer to our problems. And so they they have that in their mind.

Think about your culture. Since you're young, it's in there. You can't get it out of you. Right? In fact, a lot of people when they get married from different cultures, they have to wrangle over, you know, whose culture is right or better and all of that.

Right? And so I know I married someone out of my culture. Right? And so we went through all of that and so, they're they're they're they're frustrated because of the Romans and their circumstances and and they're looking at Jesus and and everything that he's been doing and they're thinking, okay, this is it. This is the answer to our problem.

He's, if he can walk on water, if he can provide bread out of nothing, if he can do all of these miracles and stop storms, then then he's the answer. He's going to he's going to fix it. Not only that but the way they were understanding the Old Testament and the way they were being taught was he's going to not only defeat the enemy but he's going to set up a kingdom and we're going to be the kingdom. We're going to be the number one and everybody's going to come and bow down to us. And so as they're they're thinking this, Jesus is heading towards Jerusalem and they're going, okay.

It's going to come to a culmination. He's going to finally do it, take over. And so the the disciples are thinking, oh, wow, this is gonna be great. You know, we're we're we're pretty much not not very rich. We're not well known.

But when he becomes king, we're gonna be up there with him. Think about what they're saying, what they're thinking. He's gonna become the king, and then I'm gonna get it put on those, you know, those royal robes. I'm gonna buy the Cadillac I've been looking for. You know?

I'm gonna build the house and people are gonna look at me with admiration. And so this is what they're thinking. Right? And so they walk up to Jesus, James and John. Hey, Jesus.

When when you're up in your glory, they were talking about the kingdom because everything is gonna happen pretty quick. Can I sit next to you? You know, how about my brother on the other side and and we're gonna get some of that record. Hey, look, we know this dude. Right?

It's like someone said the other day, my son in law's brother, we were at the stadium. What's it called? It changes names every time. Quicken Loans or what is it called now? Rocket.

That loans money. Rocket mortgage. Right? So we're over there and my son was in some activity and LeBron James walked with us a couple of years back, course. LeBron James walked by and my son hit his head.

Oh, and he was telling us and all of this excitement. So you imagine, they were saying... They're thinking, wow, people are gonna come and they're gonna shake my hand because I I know Jesus. Right? And and look at my look at my chain.

Right? Look at my rings and and all this acknowledgement. And so that's what they were thinking. And so I I find it very interesting that this is the third time that Jesus predicts his death explicitly. Now, every time he predicts it, something interesting happens.

11:25 Jesus teaches about suffering and the cross

Verse 24, and he summoned the multitude with his disciples and he said to him, if anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. And so in the in the first prediction that he makes, he tells Peter, you're seeking man's interest and not god's god's interest is to save man from his lost condition. You're not thinking that way. You're thinking how can you being the king? How are you going to be killed?

There's no way. You're going to be in the throne and we're to be sitting right next to you. It's going to be glorious. How can you think that way? And of course, Jesus was thinking, I need to save your soul.

So you gotta be willing to take up your cross. Now, look at 09/31. It's repeated again. Look what happens this time. 09/31, and he was teaching his disciples and telling them, the son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men and they will kill him and when he has been killed, he will rise three days later.

But they did not understand this statement and they were afraid to ask. Why? Because probably because he had rebuked Peter a couple of moments ahead. Right? Because in verse 33, and they came to Capernaum and when he was in the house, he began to question them, what were you discussing on the way?

But they kept silent. For on the way, they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. Right after he talks about his death and his suffering, all of their... They totally ignore it and all they're thinking about is what am I going to get out of this? How many clothes?

How's my my throne going to look like? My my seat, my position, my new home? What's it going to look like? And sitting down, he called the 12 and said to them, if anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all. Alright.

And then we come back to chapter ten and thirty two. Again, after he said he's going to suffer, well, what do they say? Hey, can can we sit with you in your glory and your right and your left hand? Totally ignoring or or maybe completely not understanding the fact that Jesus had to die in our behalf on the cross. And so, notice that it wasn't just John and and and James, the two brothers.

Oh, by the way, they got mama. If you go to Matthew, they got mama to go and talk on their behalf. Mark, Mark, because he's talking of to Romans, probably thought, man, that that they don't wanna hear that these guys were sissies getting mom to talk for them, right? And so Mark doesn't even mention that. And so they come up to him right after he predicted again, every time, right after he tells him how he's going to suffer.

All they're thinking about is, what do we get out of this? You know, where are we going to sit? And who's going to be the greatest? The rest of them felt indignant, as we read. Why?

Because they were thinking the exact same thing, but they beat them to the punch. Right? And they were mad. It's like, oh man, they they got there before we did and maybe they're gonna be in a position better than ours because... And and so they were all upset.

15:33 God's economy: humility and service

Alright. Let me let me let me let me read that again. Alright. In God's economy, you don't seek the place of honor or recognition. You humble yourself and you serve.

Alright? And so, Jesus was humble and compassionate. He was a true servant. So I want you to notice that in Luke, don't go there. I I have it right here.

I'm going to read it to you. 46 to 47, right after the transfiguration, an argument arose among them as to which of them might be the greatest. But Jesus knowing what they were thinking in their heart. And then we go to Luke twenty two twenty four to 27. Now, after this passage here in Mark, you would have thought this is the third time that Jesus rebuked them for that and said, you got it all wrong.

It's not about getting recognition or place of honor. It's about being humble and broken and serving. You would have thought they would have understood by that. But in Luke twenty two twenty four to 27, right after he initiated the Lord's Supper. And so picture it.

He's telling them, they're all in the room, he's explaining to them the Lord's Supper, here's the bread, it represents my body being broken for you. Here's the cup, it represents my blood being shed, it's going to clean you from sin. Do this in remembrance of me and it's a beautiful explanation. He's talking about the Lord's Supper and there arose also a dispute among them. I mean, he wasn't even done explaining the Lord's Supper.

Think about this. As to which of them was regarded to be the greatest. Do you think they had a problem with wanting to be the greatest? Wanting to be recognized? You think they were full of pride?

I mean, even at this point, he's about to go to the cross and there's still other thinking about is, which one of us is the greatest? And he said to them, he brings them over, come here. Here we go again. The kings of the Gentiles lorded over them. And those who have authority over them are called benefactors.

So in other words, here's what he's saying. In in the economy of the world, which Satan is its king, it's all about who gets the the place of recognition, who's got the better car, who who who made it, who's famous, who's got power. It's all about that. It's all about having people look at you and and think that you're great. I mean, you've seen it.

You're out there every day in the world, even in high school. I remember when we were playing football. I played too, by the way. Right? And so there was this dude, he was a blue chip linebacker.

And he tells me Ray, come here. So you see that thing in the screen? I'm not gonna take exactly what he told me because it's not politically correct anymore. But he tells me, you see that screen? There was a football game on.

He goes, one day you're gonna watch me and I'm gonna be there too. And it's it's it's all about, look what I'm going to do. I'm I'm going to get there. But he said this, not so with you, but let him who is the greatest among you become as the youngest and the leader as a servant. How's that?

For some lessons as to how we should be. Not so with you, but let him who is the greatest among you become as the youngest and and the leader as a servant for who is greater? The one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? And so what he's saying is, alright, let let's just let's keep talking about how man thinks with god out of the picture.

Who's great with a guy reclining that there's a servant giving him food, mopping the floor, cleaning up, doing things? Nobody wants that, right? Nobody wants to be in that position. So who's greater? Well, obviously, the one that's being served, right?

But I am among you as the one who serves. Wow. Here's the the greatest of all, Jesus. But what was he? He was serving.

He was serving. DL Moody says this, we may easily be too big for God to use, but never too small. But never too small. John thirteen four, he got up from the table, he took off his robe, he wrapped a towel around his waist, and he poured water into a basin, and he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. I mean, guys were like, I'm confused.

Everybody who's going to be great, who's going to be a king, everybody who who who arrives, who gets there, the the the first thing that happens is they they get servants and they get the big house and they get, you know, the the the nice car and the the recognition and the admiration of people and the jealousy of everybody else. Right? I wish I had what he had or I was there. And and so Jesus, what does he do? He he pulls out the the the basin with water and a towel.

And the the disciples are like, this can't be. That's something a servant... Are you gonna lower yourself that much? I mean, even said that to me once. Are you gonna lower yourself that way?

21:41 Washing feet as an act of service

So there's a lady named Ruth Holmes Calkins that said, How would I react? I wonder if Jesus pointed to a basin of water and asked me to wash the catas feet of a bent and wrinkled old woman day after day, month after month in a room where nobody saw and nobody knew. And I started thinking I probably wouldn't do it. Because nobody's there to admire me for doing it. So I was at a camp speaking in Tennessee a couple of years ago.

And they were working with the leaders. And then they said, but you're never going to have a foot washing service. And the first thing I thought, oh, no. I have the ugliest feet in the world. I said, how am I going to get away from this one?

Right? I felt like I don't want anybody to see my feet and much less touch them. Right? And so I'm thinking, okay, Lord, what can... What excuse can I make so I don't have to show up to that meeting?

Right? But they're going to wash your feet. And I'm praying and I'm I'm sweating. I'm nervous. It's getting closer to the hour.

You know, we're going to do a foot a foot washing thing. And so then, they said, oh, it's going to be at a campfire at night out in a field. Okay, Lord. Alright. So so far, I I think I can handle this, but so we're walking that way and I'm literally sweating and they're like, oh, man, I've never done a foot washing thing.

And so it was real dark. And then the campfire was a good little distance. And I was impressed. The leader got out a a basin and and a towel, and and he says, one by one. He says, I I bless you.

I pray that God will use you during this camp season, that he would give you power and grace. And then he took the feet and watched them. And I was like, oh, man. And he was getting closer to me. I was dripping sweat.

You know? Even though it was cold, I said, like, You know? But he got to me and did the same thing. And I thank God it was dark and nobody, you know. But it it was an it was an experience I'll never forget.

I never seen that done. Right? Now there's arguments out there amongst the commentators that that Jesus didn't say instituted that. He instituted the Lord's Supper and baptism, but not really that. However, if you're gonna do it, do it at night so you don't get to see people's feet.

But it's a very humbling experience. And I wasn't doing the washing. They were doing my feet. I still freak out when I think about it. So Norman Cousins says, history is willing to overlook almost anything, errors, paradoxes, personal weaknesses, and faults, if only a man would give himself to others.

Only a man would give himself to others. Well, I went on the internet and I did a little research. And I realized that there's a lot of benefits to serving. But first, let me tell you what Joni Erickson Tada everybody knows who she is, right? She's pretty famous.

She's in a wheelchair. All right. So someone was asking her, how do you keep from getting depressed? You're always in a wheelchair. You're always in pain.

She's had several bouts of cancer and so forth, right? And she says, I go out and I serve someone who is in need of love, who might be lonely or cripple, then I get filled with joy and I get my mind off of my pain when I serve them. And so there's there's there's blessings in serving others. Now, I got this from the internet and if you go on there, you'll see like list after list after list of all the advantages of serving others. So I'm just going to give you some, I took from all of them a little bit and I kind of threw them on here.

So I'm going give you some of them. Number one, serving blesses others. That's pretty obvious, right? But wouldn't you agree that when someone serves you, you're blessed by it? Amen?

Yes? Alright. Second, serving serving gives you purpose. It gives you purpose. Right?

Next, serving together with your spouse gives you something to do together. Again, it's a goal and a purpose. It keeps you from just being home and arguing. Right? So you go out and you serve and you do something together.

Serving keeps us from being selfish. Serving keeps us from being miserable and lonely and it makes you happier. Now, I also discovered that serving has health benefits. Now normally before I say anything medical, I call my friends who are doctors and ask them, is this true? So I'm going out on a limb here and saying that it is true because yes, Okay, here we go.

So serving has health benefits. Number one, it lowers your blood pressure. Of course, if you keep pouring tons of salt in your food and doing other things, don't expect, you know, God to do miracles all the time. But overall, if you're serving others and doing things, it helps your blood pressure. Next, it helps you live longer.

Now, you want to challenge these couple of things, I'm not going to die over this one. Right? But it sure sounds good, doesn't it? Yeah. Alright, next, it helps bodily pain.

27:50 Serving pleases God

We serve god by serving others and we must have a servant's heart to do that. Jesus measured greatness in terms of service, not status. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not by how many people serve you. Volunteer in your community. There are countless ways to serve those around you from donating blood to the Red Cross to serving food to the at a homeless shelter.

God often test our heart by asking us to serve in places we didn't know we are being called. We are being called. Serve God by humbling yourself. Alright. So, there's other ways we can serve god by using your spiritual gifts.

You're actually not only serving god but you're serving others. Amen? Right? By using your spiritual gifts. Support missionary work.

Don't lay close to missionaries or needy people. Help someone find work or housing. That's all service that you can do to others to bless them. Now, I wrote down here a bunch of acts of service that people have done here and other places I've observed. First of all, and and I was blessed by it today.

There's a brother here who bakes bread and I have been so blessed in the past and even today because my brother breaks bread. Amen? Yeah. Did did that. And so I'll go home and I cut the bread.

I'm like, oh, man. Wow. Homemade. Praise god for someone who does something like that. Someone applied salt and cleared snow for our marriage conference.

Praise God. Send a card. Make a phone call. How about somebody fixing the songbooks? Do you know a lot of them need repair?

That's an act of service. Greeting a visitor, helping someone with their finances. There's people who don't know how to handle their finances, but if someone can coach them, I think our dear brother here does a lot of that. Praise God for that. Preparing coffee and the snacks, you know, it doesn't just pop up.

Somebody serves and does it and brings it and makes the food or buys the snacks. Help set up chairs, Taking a meal to the sick. Help fix a car. There's some ladies here that are widows or there's even some men that don't know how to work on their cars and you can help them. Help them save money.

I sent my son to a class, mechanic class, so he can do the basics, Know how to change the oil. I mean, how to check the oil and the water where everything's at, how to change the oil, and how to do the basic mechanics. And after he was done, he didn't learn a thing. He doesn't know how to do any of it. And I'm like, but dude, I sent you to class.

You know, I know. I hated it. Like, yeah, but... And so, dad, I need new brakes. But didn't I send you the clap for you?

But I forgot. Alright. Come on. You jack up the car and you loosen up the things. I help you, but you're gonna do all the work.

And then he gets a little oil and he's wiping it off. But you can help someone fix a car. How many of you are there? All right. Don't you have older kids?

And that's in the mechanic class. That's what gets me upset. Did you actually say that? Man, Okay. So you can help fix a leak in a home and make repairs.

I've been blessed by brothers who have helped me with that. Thank you for doing that. Help clean up after events, after potluck. Serving that's what God wants from us. Now, during the Boxer Rebellion, everybody knows what Boxer Rebellion is in China?

32:16 The Boxer Rebellion example

And after a couple of days, they were scratching their heads because they couldn't figure out who the leader was. And so then he said some of his men put on plain clothing, get in there, join them and find out who the leader is. And so they do, they go in there and they were working and they're, who's the leader? He goes, that guy. And that guy, well, those guys had a wheelbarrow and they were working right along with everybody else.

They came back, the general, as he observed this, was so touched that he actually turned his life to Christ. He got saved by watching the people serving one another. It was amazing. And so Jesus then is teaching us a tremendous lesson. And that is the way God thinks is not the way this world thinks.

The way to greatness in the kingdom, the way to get the rewards from the Lord when we get the glory is if you're humble and you serve without looking for recognition, you just serve God and don't worry about it. And I've experienced the pain of doing a lot of things that nobody even acknowledges. That's Okay. We do it for the Lord. Amen?

We do it for the Lord. Lord, you're watching me. Now, I want you to turn your eyes to Second Corinthians chapter eight real quick. Then, I'll bring back and try to I gotta do this fast. Just just so you know, alright?

Verse 17, for Timothy in verse 16, not only accepted our appeal but being himself very earnest, he has gone to you on his own accord and we have sent along with him the brother whose fame and the things of the gospel has spread through all the churches and not only this but he also has been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work which is being administered by us for the glory of the lord himself and to show our readiness. Take... Taking precautions that no one should discredit us in our administration of this generous gift. For we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often tested and found diligent in many things, but now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you.

As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you. As for our brethren, they are messengers of the churches and glory of Christ. Now, if you pay attention, go back and read it on your own. You're going to realize that they talk about three brothers. One was Titus.

Then there was one guy mentioned, but he's... They just call him the brother. And then he mentions a second brother. So in other words, if you're listening to what I'm saying, brother in Christ. These were men that were well known.

The text says they were well known, respected among all the churches. They were picked to go with Titus and take this offering to Jerusalem, but he never mentions their name. He mentions Titus. But why didn't he just say like John? He didn't.

He said the brother. Now, in many of our circles today, I can't believe my name wasn't mentioned. I'm not coming to this church anymore. My name wasn't mentioned, you know. And then the second brother, just as important, he was proven to be diligent and respected among the churches, but it doesn't say his name.

There's a second brother all offended. That's not what the text says. There were men who brought glory to Christ. They didn't care. The Holy Spirit chose not to mention them.

It didn't matter. They were gonna serve God, and they were willing to do it. And they were men of respect, well known. And they did this work. Whether they were mentioned or not, whether the name was on there or not, it didn't matter.

36:55 The wedding invitation story

Mom and dad request the honor to come to our wedding. And then she goes, no, I want my name to be first. And my parents want us to be first. So she requests with the husband come to the wedding. And they they started fighting about this, and then the parents got involved.

And it got so intense that two weeks later, they canceled the wedding because they wanted their name first on the invitation. They fought barely. It was it was a shame to see. It was a shame to see. And so what what is Jesus saying?

Verse 43. But it is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the son of man did not come to be served. I can't tell you how much the Lord has convicted me.

This right here, I I repented all week as I was preparing. I really did. The Lord really spoke to me. I came not to be served. I didn't come to be served, but to serve.

Man, the Lord spoke to me deeply. He was, why why y'all upset all the time getting offended? Because somebody didn't recognize you or didn't invite you, didn't put your name on the thing. Who cares? Serve god.

Do for him and for his glory. He sees you. He's watching. And notice, this is so beautiful to to every believer. And to give his life a ransom for many.

Wow. The ransom refers to the price paid to free a slave or a prisoner. Notice that he says, for many. Many means in place of. Now, didn't say for all because he did it for for many because only those who receive the Lord, it applies to them.

It's there for all because he died for all, but it's only for those who receive them that it applies. He he paid the price for you, but you have to take Christ as your savior so that'll become effective in your life. So Christ substitutionary death on behalf of those who put their faith in him is the most glorious blessed truth in all scripture. The ransom was paid to god to satisfy his justice and holy wrath against sin. In paying it, Christ bore our sins in his body on a tree.

He paid it all. Oh, mind you, look out for that theology that's going around saying that that Jesus paid the ransom to Satan. He didn't owe Satan a dime. He didn't pay him anything. If anything, Satan was crushed for his foolishness on the cross.

But he didn't pay anything to him, he paid it to God. Amen. Don't forget that. The payment was made to God because the holy God was offended and Jesus was willing to pay the ransom through his shed blood to save us so that we can have eternal life. Therefore, godly...

God highly exalted him and both bestowed on him a name which is above every name. Why? Because he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even the death of a cross. And so in closing, let me ask you a couple of questions. Or let me just say a couple of statements.

Ask God to give you a servant heart. Ask God to give you a certain heart. How blessed we are, and this simply is, by all of you who just serve. We are truly blessed by that. Keep it up.

Keep it up. And if you're not serving, ask God to put that in your heart so that you can serve. Next, Jesus was a humble servant. I I... My mind can't wrap itself around this truth.

The the god that that that Bob talked about in the Lord's Supper this morning, that that god that's beyond us, that's transcendent, that created everything coming down and becoming a servant. I mean, ask God for help to grasp that reality. And I want to close with this verse. Luke seventeen ten. So you too, when you do all things which are commanded, you say, we are unworthy slaves.

We have done only that which we ought to have done. That's Jesus again. We are unworthy slaves. We have done only that which we ought to have done. That's a different way of looking at service.

42:40 Prayer for a servant's heart

But we fight that we resist, at least I do. And I pray that you would give me a servant's heart. That I would be just humble and broken and just serve you, regardless of man acknowledges it or not. May we do it for you and for your glory. Thank you that Jesus was a servant, our example, and he gave his life a ransom for many.

Bless us now as we go home, Lord, we pray in Jesus name, amen.
