Prophesy — Jeremiah 2
14 passages in this message
Dwight Knight examines Jeremiah 2, distinguishing between covenant, kingdom, and church prophecy to understand which truths apply to believers today. He draws out principles of conditional prophecy, divine faithfulness, and the nature of prophetic living, referencing Old Testament examples like Achan and the silence of Amos.

0:00 Covenant, kingdom, and church prophecy
Covenant, kingdom, and church prophecy. Like there's covenant truth, there's kingdom truth, and there's church truth. You gotta make a difference where the holy spirit makes a difference. To explain what I mean by that, not all truth is for us. There are things that God said to Israel and specifically and only to Israel, exclusive to Israel.
There are things that happened during the kingdom advent of the Lord Jesus Christ while he was on earth that was spoken for the people of that period and they were not meant for the church. We can learn from them, we can see God's hand, we can see his righteousness in it, but it it was not for us. Then there's church truth, which is for us, to us, and about us. Don't ever forget Romans chapter 15 verse four, which says, whatsoever things written aforetime were written for our learning that we through the patience and comfort of the scripture might have hope. So things that happened both in kingdom truth and in covenant truth were written so that we might learn the nature and attributes of God how he deals with people and trust in his promises.
Same way it is with prophecy. There are prophecies that were made for Israel that are not for the church and were not exhibited during the kingdom advent. For example, here's an example of one. Turn to Jeremiah chapter two, and this is an example of covenant prophecy. Jeremiah chapter two.
And look at verse number four. It says this. It says, hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. There is a prophecy that's about to happen, it's gonna last about 25 or 30 verses, that's just for Israel. Period.
It has no other relevance for anybody else in the world. God is talking to Israel. And that's where a lot of people really get screwed up. In today's culture, there are things that are popping up and trying to drag a gentile world into Judaism. One of the more popular ones is Hebrew Israelism.
That's trying to say that all people of my hue are the lost 10 lost tribes. Well, so what? What if we are the 10 lost tribes? Judaism today is now a cult. Did you realize that?
Judaism is a false religion. It's worshiping a God that does not exist. Because if the Jews do not accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah, their God, they're believing in a false God. It may not feel good, but it's the truth anyway. I don't care about where the ark is, I don't care where the 10 commandments are, I don't care about Aaron's rod that budded, I don't care anything about manna.
I have the living bread that came down from heaven. So, you know, all the things about Judaism, throw it away. It's not worth anything. The... You know what?
You know, Paul called them weak and beggarly elements. So you just got to keep your head out of... You know, somebody says, I know the real name of God is Yahweh. The real name of God, Jesus said, I come not in my own name, I come in the name of him who sent me. And that's that the royal name of God is Lord Jesus Christ.
Now, you're trying to find yourself in the Old Testament, hell is mentioned there too. Hell is mentioned there too. If you're trying to follow the things that are in the Old Testament, in the old codes and commandments, rules and regulations, signs and symbols, guess what? You're you're falling after a false religion. So the things that are mentioned, yes, the old testament has immeasurable value.
The old testament is written for our learning, but it's not written for our salvation. It's not, it's not the gospel. The old testament is not the gospel. And you cannot derive, listen to this, you cannot derive doctrine from the old testament. You can't even derive doctrine from the gospels.
You derive doctrine from the epistles. The Holy Spirit demanded that Satan would hit the first century church with everything he had so it would be handled apostolically and written about in the epistles. Now, the rest of the Bible, yes, illustrations, yes, examples, yes, proof that God keeps his word, but what we live by is what God gave the apostles for the church. Bible says in first Timothy chapter three verse 15 that the church is the pillar and the ground of the truth. So keep your sight on what's happening.
Okay, so here we see a covenantal relationship where God is prophesying strictly for the nation of Israel. Let me give you another one. And if you see some things there that the Charismatic Joy Boys are quoting, you can again have every reason not to buy any of their tapes. Turn to Deuteronomy chapter 28. Deuteronomy chapter 28.
And I heard a I won't call him an idiot. I heard this fool preach from this and he's trying to get people to lock into this as part of the church's, I guess you'd say benefits or blessing, and it's not true. Deuteronomy 28, it says this, and it should come to pass, if thou shalt hearken, remember this is conditional prophecy here, if thou shalt hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord thy God and serve and to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee today, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. All of these blessings shall come on thee and overtake thee if thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God. Blessed shall thou be in the city, blessed shall thou be in the field, blessed are the fruit of thy body, blessed are fruit of the ground, the fruit of the cattle, the increase of thy kind and the flocks of thy sheep, blessed are the basket of thy store, blessed are the be when thou comest and blessed are thou shalt be when thou goest out.
Well, that's great stuff. It's not written to you. It's not for you. Yes, it is Dwight, I claim that. I name it, claim it, I confess it, I possess it, I believe it, I receive it, I spit it, I get it, I slab it, I grab it.
It's all right there. It's in the bible, Dwight. Okay, but remember something. If you take one part of the law, you got to take... All.
5:55 If thou will not hearken
This is not written to you. It's not. I'm I'm sorry. That's what the whole book of Hebrews is about. Better promises, better precepts.
You have everything that's better. That's why the keyword for Hebrews is better, better, better. Why would you want to go back to the things that were... The best that the law could produce was mercy. Bible says, for the law came by Moses.
Guess what came by Jesus Christ? Grace. Grace. Hallelujah for grace and truth. Mercy just says, I won't beat you this time.
Grace says, I'm a elevate you and exalt you to the highest position obtainable by mortal man, heir of God enjoined with Jesus Christ. The bible doesn't say, by mercy you are saved, but by grace you are saved through faith. Not of yourselves is the gift of God, not of worthless any man should boast. So understand that these prophecies that are mentioned, whether they be apocalyptic or conditional, these are written for the nation of Israel. Then there's kingdom prophecy, kingdom prophecy.
Turn to your Bibles please to the book of Matthew. Now remember what Matthew is. Matthew is the most Jewish gospel there is, In that, there are 70, I'm sorry, there are 51 direct quotations from the Old Testament in the Gospel of Matthew, and 106 allusions to the Old Testament. Matthew quotes more of the Old Testament than the rest of the New Testament combined. Matthew was a Jew.
He understood that it was imperative for his people to understand who the real Messiah was. As a matter of fact, the reason why Matthew was stoned was because he dared write his gospel in Aramaic, which is the language of the people. Remember that if you didn't speak true Hebrew, which most Jews didn't, you couldn't go into the temple. That's why you had to go to a synod or a synagogue. You couldn't go into the temple unless you understood pure Hebrew, didn't make any sense to you.
And the common language of the people was Aramaic. So Matthew knowing that said, I'll tell you what, I'll write my gospel in Aramaic. And it made the Jews so mad that they stoned him because of it. And as a result, the gospel of Matthew survived and it flourished and it went on to do the wonderful aspects of reaching and changing the lives of many Jews. Matthew 24, I'm sorry, Matthew 23 verse thirty six and thirty seven.
This has nothing to do with us. Notice what it says, verily verily I say unto you, all these things shall come upon this generation, oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest them which I sent unto thee, how often I would have gathered thee together even as a kin gathereth her her chickens under her wings, they wouldest not. Behold, your house is left desolate unto you, for I say unto you, you shall not see me henceforth, till you say blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Now guess what, the Jehovah's Witnesses take this verse and say, see, you'll never come to see Jesus Christ because that day has not happened yet, where we would say blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Well, what, it's not written to us, it's kingdom truth.
And most Christians don't understand the difference, they just see a piece of a passage scripture that's being quoted by somebody that doesn't know what they're talking about and they go, okay. It's not written, it's kingdom truth, it's kingdom prophecy. So what is written for us? Like I said, it is the writings of prophets by the so right written by the apostles and prophets of their day, yes, the whole Bible is the whole Word of God. I'm not in any way diminishing or diluting the Bible, but I'm saying we order our lives according to the script for the church, and that is the epistles.
And this is not anything you knew, you know it. Everything we practice in the New Testament church is written about in the epistles. And we really believe on line upon line, precept upon precept, out of the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is established. Paul said in second Corinthians chapter 13, he said verse two, he says, the second time I'm writing unto you, out of the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is established. That's just it.
That's how we establish doctrine, and that's how we teach our kids. We reinforce it, we reinforce it. Our God is a God who is not only historical, but he's hysterical, to have a view of that. Hysterical, what does that mean? He not only has history, but he fits in history and the culture and the surroundings that his events are happening.
He does not forget the fact that while the Ezekiel was prophesying, Genghis Khan was rummaging through the Mongol herds, okay. He fits himself in time and space. Xerxes was a both a contemporary king of his day, and you also find him in the Bible. When the Babylonians encountered Daniel, Daniel so rocked their world, they changed their whole college system to wait for the coming of the Messiah. That's why the men from the East came from Babylon, because their clock had told them by the prophecies of Daniel that it was so accurate, they knew better than the Jews when the Messiah would show up.
God fits himself not only in history, but in historical events, And that's very important. You are not... This is not the Koran where some guy got heat stroke and started writing some babblings and nobody understands today. On the back of his mule, he wrote them on leaves, he wrote them on his clothes, and he was a pedophile. One man writing it.
That's why we can't accept the teachings of the Mormon. One man saw the plates and nobody else has. 42 different authors through four thousand years and not one contradiction. So that's why we believe this book. It is verifiable.
My friend Kenny Grant says that the bible is a seamless garment with a crimson thread that runs right to the cross. And that's true. Line upon line, precept upon precept. We trust the word of God, and the only time the word of God is compromised is when it's in the hands of Christians who don't know what they're talking about. So, we have to make a difference where the Holy Spirit makes a difference.
12:26 Amos chapter eight, four hundred years of silence
When did it take place?
Four hundred years.
Four hundred years of silence. At the end of second Chronicles, remember in the Masoretic text, the Hebrew version of the Bible, the Hebrew version of Bible starts with Genesis and ends with second Chronicles, not with Malachi, I mean Malachi, okay? It doesn't end with Malachi, it ends in chronological order. That's why Jesus said that the Pharisees were guilty of the blood from righteous Abel to Zacharias, because Zacharias was the last prophet in second Chronicles to be martyred. So that's what he's talking about.
He's using the Masoretic text. Genesis to second Chronicles. So, at the end of second Chronicles to the beginning of the teachings that we get from the Gospel of Mark, because remember Gospel of Mark was the first Gospel written, that period was four thirty years of silence prophesied right there in Amos. The church doesn't care about the four thirty years. We weren't even born yet.
It was all for the Jews, it's covenant truth, covenant truth, covenant prophecy, strictly for the Jews, okay. So keep that in mind, when you read your bible, just ask the question, is this for us? Is it for us? Now, trust me, just because it's in the Old Testament does not mean it's not church truth. There are things that God said in the Old Testament are definitely for me, definitely for you, definitely for the church age.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Let me tell you something, that's for Dwight. That's church truth. That's a constant, that's a stagnant of the belief of the scriptures. But there are things that God said to Israel that he didn't mean for me.
Okay? So please don't get lost in that and don't find yourself without an explanation when somebody brings that up to you. Okay, the next type of prophecy is exclusive prophecy. Prophecy is written to a specific individual or a family. Let me show you what I mean.
Turn to second Chronicles chapter 16, second Chronicles chapter 16 and look at verse number six. Second Chronicles chapter 16 and look at verse number six. It says this, then Asa the king took all Judah and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timber thereof wherewith Bashar was building and he built there Geba and Mizpah. At the time Hanai the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said unto him, because thou has relied on the king of Syria and not relied on the Lord thy God, therefore as the host of the king of Israel escaped out of thine hand. Were not the Ethiopians and the Lebanese huge hosts with very many chariots and horsemen yet because thou disrelied on the Lord, he delivered in thine hand.
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show himself strong on in behalf of those of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein, thou has done foolishly, therefore from henceforth thou shall have wars. That's an exclusive prophecy to Asa. A righteous king who did something foolish. Now notice, notice here, I've heard people quote verse number nine over and over again and then they stop at the rest of the verse.
You hear people say, for the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whore, to show himself stronger than half of them whose heart is perfect toward him, they stop. Read the rest of the verse. What does the rest of the verse say? It doesn't feel very good. It says this, herein thou has done foolishly, therefore from henceforth thou shall have wars.
You're take the whole verse? You got to. You cannot take the bible out of context. This is exclusive prophecy to a king of Israel. It's not written for you.
It's not. It's not written to you. This is an exclusive prophecy. Here's another one, turn to second Kings chapter 20. Second Kings chapter 20.
And if you read on second Chronicles, you'll see that those things happen. Haysa had wars and he died in the midst of one. But look at second Kings chapter 20. Before we read there, get there, I want to read to you three verses. Three verses.
And the person who can tell me what book I'm reading for, I'll give you a free book. Reading from, I'll give you a free book. Okay, find second Kings 20, but I want to read something to you from another passage of scripture, and I want see if you guys can recognize what the passage is. In the third year of the reign of Jehoachim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it. And the Lord gave Jehoachim where?
Jeremiah. Nope. Yes, Daniel. And God gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of his God which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his God and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God. And the king spake unto Aspanez, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel of the king's seed and of the princes, children of whom was no blemish but well favored and skillful in all wisdom.
Okay, what happened here? He's Nebuchadnezzar has gone and sacked Jerusalem and all of Israel, taken all the treasure that all the kings had garnered, all the gold and the silver and the fine brass and he takes it and he puts it in the treasure house and the storehouse of his God. Then, the next thing he does is he grabs all of the children, the fine children raised in royalty and sons of prophets and daughters of princes, and he brings them in and he takes the young man and he makes them Munich's. Now, two Kings chapter 20, look at verse number 14. Well, we'll start at verse number 12.
At the time, Baroda Baladin, the son of Baladin, king of Babylon sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. And Hezekiah hearkened unto them and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, the gold, the spices, precious ointments, all the house of his armor, all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah showed them not. Then came Isaiah, the prophet under King Hezekiah and said unto him, what has these men? What said these men?
And from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, they have come from a far country, even Babylon. And he said, what have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, all the things that are in mine house have they seen, there's nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them. And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, hear the word of the Lord, behold the days will come that all that is in thine house and that which thy fathers have laid in store, up in store until this day shall be carried into Babylon.
Nothing shall be left, saith the Lord, and of thy sons that thou shall an issue from thee, which thou shall beget. They shall take away and shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. The whole reason why Daniel, the book of Daniel exists is because of what he did wrong right here. Three generations later, fulfilled absolutely. Fulfilled absolutely.
Archaeologists don't like the Old Testament. I was watching a program once called In Search of Sodom and Gomorrah. An archaeologist says, I've been an atheist all my life. He said, the worst thing I ever did was become an archaeologist Because every time I go to disprove the Bible, I find it to be true. He said the worst thing that happened to me was I became an archaeologist because every time I'd go to prove the Bible wrong, I find it to be true.
This is exclusive prophecy to Hezekiah. And guess what Hezekiah said after Isaiah said this to him? Look at what he says in verse number 19, Then Hezekiah said in Isaiah, good is the word of the Lord, which thou hast spoken. And he says, isn't that good if there's peace and truth in my days? Who cares what happened to my future generations?
As long as I'm in high, wide, handsome. Let me just pull over and park here for a hot second. A young man went to his elders and said, this church cost $3,000,000 to build. We use it for four hours a week. Can I and the young men, young married men, college aged men, opened the church up for after school programs, for evangelism in the neighborhood, and that kind of thing, when the days when the church was not using it?
And one elder said to him, speaking for all the elders, wait seventeen years and we're dead and you can do anything you want with this place. It's two years later, right? The church is split, gone. All the young men, all the young marrieds, the families, gone. Who cares as long as there's peace and truth in our days?
So here's an example of exclusive prophecy. God genuinely determines something, somebody that he's involved with and he says something directly to him. Now let me say this to you. I'm not saying it can't happen, but boy, it's a stretch if it does happen. There's no such thing as private prophecies.
When somebody comes up to you and they, know, and slap you on your empty head with their empty hand, and you pass out, and they say a word of prophecy over you, I'm not saying that can't happen. Don't bet the farm on it. Don't do that. If it's not in the book, don't bet on it. My dear friend James Ford said, if it's new, it's not true.
It's got to be verifiable, ladies and gentlemen. Okay, God is committed to you, but before He's committed to you, He's exalted His word above all His name. And the word of God must be verifiable. And you get a private prophecy, okay. But don't hold God accountable for when it doesn't happen.
Just because somebody says, thus saith the Lord, doesn't mean thus the Lord said. Didn't the Bible say try the spirits, whether they be of God? Try the spirits. Be discerning and mature enough to recognize the spirit of truth versus the spirit of error. And I say this, there's no...
I'm not exaggerating in any shape, form, or fashion. A lady came to me one day, I love her, she was a beautiful sister in the Lord. She said, Dwight, I want you to pray for something for me. I said, okay, Alice, what is it? She said, well, it's an unspoken request.
I said, well, you know what I do with unspoken requests? What? I pray an unspoken prayer. She said, you're not going pray for me? I'd love to pray for you, but I'm not going to pray blindly.
I'm sorry, you know, if you've got something that's so secretive that the person praying for you can't know it, okay, you know, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna get caught up in that. She said, okay, alright Dwight, okay. This is what it is. She said, you know Howard.
And I knew Howard just from the fact that she was interested in him and he was interested in her. And you know, she talked about getting married to him one day. I said, yeah, I know Howard. She said, Dwight, well, here's my prayer request. Pray that his wife will die in her sleep non violently and suddenly so we can go ahead and get married.
What? What? Sure, Alice, I'd love to pray that. God is my witness, that's the truth. That's the truth.
What? What? What are you... What? I didn't even know he was married.
I said, what are you talking about? Basically, you're carrying on an adulterous relationship, if not in actuality, definitely in thought. She said, well, named and claimed him. He named and claimed it. I said, you know, everybody talking about heaven ain't going there.
So be careful. Be careful. I know some of the things that are being preached today sound very attractive. And some of the things that the world, the charismatic joy boys are sharing, they sound very attractive. But it ain't of God.
Ain't of God. Now there's some really genuine believers out there that are part of the charismatic movement, and I love them and I've had fellowship with them. But wholesale, I would not trust what they're selling if you can't verify it in scripture, okay? Okay, here's the next form of apocalyptic prophecy, Messianic prophecy. Messianic prophecy, now you know there's going to be a ton of those, so let's look at some of the...
26:00 Messianic prophecies: reign, passion, suffering
Jesus referred to him by what statement more than any other? Son Son of of man. Here's why, Daniel chapter seven verses thirteen and fourteen. That is absolutely messianic. Absolutely messianic.
It is saying about the Lord Jesus Christ, this is his the detail of Philippians chapter two verse eight, Wherefore God has highly exalted him and given him a name that is above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, things in heaven, things in earth, things under the earth and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. This is the the the description of what that looks like. Absolutely messianic. This is the the coronation scene that we see in Revelations chapter five when he's handed the scroll with the seven seals. And everybody bows down and worships him and the four and twenty elders cast their crowns at his feet.
That's something we look forward to. So this is it in detail, all right? So that's the first one and that's talking about his kingdom reign. The next one, turn to Isaiah chapter 52, you know this, to Isaiah chapter 52, starting at verse number 12. This master stroke of of holy spirit literature.
You've got from Matthew, from Isaiah 52 verses 12 through Isaiah 53 verse 12, five sets of couple of triplets. Three verses that have the same subject matter move on to another three verses that have the same subject matter five times and each set of triplets is longer than the one that preceded it. And it's all talking about this wonderful person called my servant. Remember that there's two aspects of Jesus presented on earth, Christ the king and Christ the servant. And Christ the servant, Isaiah talks about him exclusively in Isaiah chapter 42, Isaiah 52, 53, and so on.
He talks about the my servant role. And the word servant there is a Greek word doulos, which means bond slave. Okay? Right at, you know I don't have enough time to curvy all this, but bond slave meaning someone who is purposely and willingly yielded their right of independence. I only do the things which my father has told me.
The works I do are not my works, they are works of the one who sent me. I come not in my own name, name of the one who sent me. The things I say unto you that are not my words, they are my father's word. Jesus gave up all of the right of independence. The bible says he humbled himself.
It is the great kenosis, the emptying of himself. And the role of the servant, that's why the bible says he took upon him the form of a servant made in the likeness of men. So, somebody read verse 12 of Isaiah 52, verses 12 through 15.
You shall not go out with haste, nor go like flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the Lord God of Israel will be your rear guard. Behold, my servant shall deal freely. He shall be exalted and extoled me very high, Just as many were astonished that you saw this visit was marred more than any man. It is born more than the sons of men. So shall we sprinkle many nations.
Kings shall shut their mouths again. For what had not been told them, they shall see.
If you take this passage of scripture, all way through this in chapter 53, it's literally as though the Holy Spirit has peeled back the curtain of time and eternity and given Isaiah a commentary view of what's going to happen seven fifty years in the future. There's no way you can deny this. Now I did have a debate with a man I hired, he was an employee of mine. He discipled me in the Old Testament, his name is Gary Eisenberger. He was a rabbi in Baha'i Brit, one of the synods in Detroit.
And he said, this is talking about Israel, Dwight. This is talking about Israel. I said, really? He said, yeah. He said, where in scripture is Israel ever called my servant?
When did Israel ever be crucified? When did Israel ever be the sacrifice for Gentile nations? When did it ever happen? It's gonna happen in the future. No, it happened in the past.
One man, one person. He shall see the travail of his soul and be satisfied. It's already happened. That's why Matthew quotes him. I said, because you know what, guys, let's be honest.
If Jesus was a fraud, if he was a fraud, why did you pay any attention to him? Why did you crucify a liar? Why did you do that? Why did you break every single law concerning a crime against Israel or blasphemy? Why did you break every single law?
Why did you commit yourself to being cursed? Let his blood be on us and on our children. And trust me, if anybody, if anybody suffered because of what they did to Christ, you guys did. You know, the holocaust didn't last a weekend. You're suffering because of what you did with Christ.
31:43 Amos chapter eight, crucifixion
Amos chapter eight verses nine and ten. Hold it. I'll make the what? Go down at noon. Does anybody know what Matthew twenty seven forty five says?
Now there was darkness over the whole land from the sixth hour to the ninth hour. When is the sixth hour? Noon. Noon. Now Amos had some pretty good binoculars because he could see all the way forward for six hundred years.
Keep going, read on. Hold it. Feast. What feast was happening during the time of Jesus' crucifixion? Passover.
Passover. Alright? Remember when Jesus was walking down the Villa De La Rosa and the women started to lament? Remember? Remember what Passover was supposed was supposed to be a time of rejoicing because God passed over them and they would deliver from Egypt.
But now, those rejoicing days shall be days of lamenting. And you know what, from this point forward, check your history book, Israel never had a rejoicing feast. From this point forward, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. History tells you, a great set of books to get if you don't have it, it only costs about $39 $40 for all five books in set. The history of the Jewish people in the time of Jesus Christ.
That's great reading. I mean, can read that. You can read all five books in probably a week and a half, but it gives you a wonderful synopsis of the life that happened during the time of Jesus, time on earth and subsequently, what happened? Oh, it's a collection of guys. There's a whole seminary that did it.
Get it, please get it. The history of the Jewish people in the times of Jesus Christ. Excellent, excellent. Five volume set, costs about $40. Okay.
So, sun was go down at noon. The bible says, and there was a darkness over the land. Why? Because whenever God works in creation, he works in light, But redemption is done in the dark. Notice what happened in Genesis chapter 15.
Lo, a horror of a great darkness came over the soul of Abraham and Jesus walked among those sacrifices. Remember, when God was delivering Israel out of Egypt's hand, there was darkness, the bible says it could be felt. Darkness over the land. And here, the crucifixion, darkness. God doesn't let the world see what he's doing when he's redeeming.
Okay, keep reading. Okay. Here I need the King James version, verse number 10. Middle part of verse number 10. Anybody saved you got King James version?
Is that a King James version? Yeah. Go ahead and read it. You got it? It says the same thing.
Here's what it says. It says, and I will make the morning as an only sun and as the end as a better day. There's that phrase again, monogenes weas, the only begotten son. Now, you know what Amos says? Look at chapter number seven, verse number 11 of Amos.
Then Amos said to Amasi, I was no prophet neither was I a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a gatherer of sycamore fruit. You know what he's saying? I'm not a prophet, I'm not the son of a prophet, I work for a non profit organization. There it is, right there. I don't even know why I'm giving this prophecy, he was not a religious guy, he was not on payroll for the kingdom.
But you know what he says, he says, I'm seeing the future. I'm seeing the future. This is one of the things that they studied at Oxford, that made Oxford change and have a seat of Christianity. You know, Oxford has a seat of Christian theology because of the study of Amos, and one professor did. And he said he found out that Amos was written validatably, written seven twenty one years before Jesus Christ was even heard of, and he prophesied exactly what would happen at the crucifixion.
Hey, you know what? Wake up and notice, this is not a fairy tale. A couple of guys didn't get together for a weekend and write this. It's history and history is his story. Period.
Amen. This this is not this is not accidental. Amos purposely prophesied what god wanted to be said. You can't mistake this. It's there.
And you ask, I I you know, I I I was debating with a guy in nineteen ninety four or five and I said, my problem with you as an atheist is you don't follow your own rules. There are two types of evidences. What are they? Anybody know? No apologists in the room?
There's what is known as scientific evidence, recurring events that you can scientifically document, And there's eyewitness evidence. More than one person corroborates what happens in events and it's in an evidence. Therefore, it is not circumstantial. Scientific evidence can be circumstantial. Eyewitness is not circumstantial.
Okay? You have everybody saying the same thing about what happened. The scripture tells us that seven different cultures were represented at the cross. They went back to their own people, their own generations, their own times, their own languages, and they wrote the exact same thing in what happened at the cross. You have thousands, probably tens of thousands.
At the time of the Passover, Jerusalem had about 750,000 people, and they all said the same thing. You have scores and scores of thousands of people who said the same thing. Mister scientists, mister atheist, you have all of these eyewitnesses and you know what you say, they all diluted. It was mass hypnotism. Get off the crack.
This is absolute verifiable truth. Paul said, he was seen about above 500 brethren. Amen. What what what it's saying there is this, you can't refute it. Please hear me, you guys especially.
A man with an experience is never at the mercy of somebody with only an argument. Condemnation without an investigation is the zenith of intellectual ignorance. If you have someone who spoke of what happened and they all agree and they don't know each other and there's no profit in it for them, Go to, just research the British Museum and read the centurion's account of what happened when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. It's in the British Museum. And guess what, museums don't keep fakes and frauds, but it is the written documentation of Marcus Flavius, who was the centurion of that day, who had the watch over the tomb of Jesus, his account is absolutely and complete verification of what the bible said happened the day of crucifixion.
But you won't find that out, you know why? Cause the world doesn't want you to believe the truth. But it's in a museum. A secular museum that gets no profit from the fact that Jesus rose up from the dead was verifiable. I don't care if they didn't have documentation.
He rose up from the dead. He got up from the grave. How do you know? Because He saved me. You know, I'm really happy that God loves the world, but the most important thing in the world is that He loves me.
I'm glad you guys are going to heaven, but more important than you going to heaven is me going to heaven. Now, you got to be selfish at some point. I'm not going say I wish I could, I wish that you'd go to heaven so much, I'll go to hell for you. Nope, Paul can say that, I can't say that. Alright, let's move on.
Alright, so we covered several types of Messianic prophecy, I can give you so much more but that's enough for now. Is there any questions of what we covered so far? Any questions? Am I slowing down any? No?
40:51 Conditional prophecy, if then situations
Covenant, exclusive, kingdom, so on and so forth. Those are all under apocalyptic, okay? And what we're about to start now is conditional prophecy. Alright. Are there any prophecies for the church?
What are they? Where would you find them? For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel. That one? Okay, anymore?
Bingo. The only book of pure prophecy in the entire Bible is the book of Revelation. Wasn't that prophetic? Didn't God speak through the agency of a human being and showed him on the Isle Of Patmos what was going to happen? The whole book of Revelation is prophecy.
Okay. I John, who also am your brother and companion in tribulation was in the alchow, Patmosa, and I John saw these things. Behold, he cometh with clouds and every eye shall see him and they also who pierced him and the kings of the earth shall well because of him, even so, amen. That's prophecy. The whole book of Revelation.
I've heard so many Christians say, I don't touch Revelation because it's not for me. Okay, you've been dipping into communion wine. Look, it's for you. The Bible says there's a blessing connected with understanding and reading and believing the book of Revelation. There's a blessing attached to it.
Don't x that out of your life. Okay, so there's a whole book of prophecy for us in the church age and that's the book of Revelation. You're right, First Thessalonians chapter four and First John, definitely, Chapter three, there's tons of prophecy for the church that we can believe and hold onto. I think to some of the writings that Paul wrote to Timothy, he said, in the last days, this is going to happen. The spirit speaks expressly.
In the last days, perilous times shall come. So there's definitely prophecy for the church that we can trust in. What time am supposed to quit, Ray?
I don't know.
Because I can do finish the rest tomorrow.
Six hours and nine hours.
Oh, yeah. That was earlier today. Okay, 15 more quickly, quickly, I want to talk about conditional prophecy. The if then situations that we talked about. Look at, well, we covered, basically we talked about it.
Second Chronicles seven fourteen, if my people which are called by thy name shall humble themselves and pray and seek their face and turn from their wicked way, Then I will hear from heaven forgive their sins and heal their land. Now, conditional prophecy, conditional prophecy can be presented through divine intervention or human causality. What do I mean? God may see something that is about to happen and he's warning his people by giving them a condition. For example, turn to the book of Joshua.
Book of Joshua, and you know this, where God is about to invade Jericho. And God is, I think this is one of the most unique passages of scripture in the Bible, where He tells them, basically, don't touch the accursed thing. Look at what it says in chapter six Joshua, verses one and two. Now, Jericho was strictly shut up because of the shows of Israel, none went out, none came in. The Lord said unto Joshua, see, I've given unto thee thine hand Jericho and the kingdom thereof and the mighty men of valor.
Drop down to verse number 16, and it should come to pass that the seventh time when the priest will blow the trumpet, Joshua said unto people, shout for the Lord, I've given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it and all that are therein. To the Lord only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in her house because she did not, she hid the messengers that went. And ye, if you in any wise keep yourselves from the cursed thing, lest you make yourselves accursed when you take of the accursed thing and make the camp of Israel a curse and trouble it. But all the silver and gold and the vessels of brass and iron are consecrated unto the Lord, they shall come into the treasure house of the Lord.
Now basically, let me just pass this little piece onto you. The word there that, verse 18, it says, and make the camp of Israel a curse and trouble it. The word trouble is the Hebrew word achen. You know what's about to happen, don't you? What's about to happen?
Look at verse number, chapter seven and verse number one, But the children of Israel committed trespass in the cursed thing for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, the tribe of Judah took of the accursed thing and the angry Lord was kindled against the children of Israel. God basically was saying, I'm talking to you Achan, Don't Aiken Israel. And that's what his name means, trouble. God used a proper name to describe an action and he is telling before it happens. See, that's divine intervention.
God is saying, I know your heart aching, I know your heart. You don't have to do this. So the best way I can make sure you understand I'm talking to you, is to include your name into what I'm saying. Don't trouble Israel. Your name means trouble.
47:17 Divine intervention, Achan
It doesn't have to happen this way. It's very clear that God is pointing you out. He's making sure you understand this. This is a story I tell my closer friends. Some of you have heard of the secular artist Smokey Robinson.
He's a Motown bigwig. He lived, all the Motown artists lived in my neighborhood. Mean, Stevie Wonder lived the next block over. All these people, and you'd see him all the time. And Smokey Robinson's nephew was in the same grade I was in.
And He said, hey Dwight, why don't you come over tomorrow about 03:00? My cousin Smokey will be there and he'll sign some pictures for you and he'll autograph some pictures for you. You can meet him. Well, at that time, that was my favorite singer, Smokey Robinson. And so I told my mother that night, Keith invited me over to his house because his uncle, Smokey will be there and he's gonna sign some pictures for me and give me his autograph and I'll get a chance to meet him.
Well, my mother did not want me to pursue anything that in any way remotely resembled music Because my father was a musician, he left us and abandoned us and he went on to follow a musical career. So she was absolutely dead set against it. She said, Dwight, come home, don't go anywhere, do what I tell you. I said, mom, but Smokey Robinson's gonna be at his nephew's house. She said, I don't care who's gonna be there, you come home.
Alright, so the next day, Smokey Robinson was going be at Keith's house. So, I went over to Keith's house and I got autographs and I met the man and all that kind of stuff and he was smoking and drinking and all that kind of stuff and swearing. I mean, he was worldly. And when I get home, my brother Bruce had called my mother at work. Bruce has always been the tabler of the family.
And of course, he waited until he had gotten a handful of pictures signed by Smokey to tell me that he had told my mother that I had done this. And my mother, he said, Mama wants you to call her at work. Okay? I called her at work and she said, Dwight, did you come straight home like I told you to? No ma, I told you that Smokey Robinson had something for me and I went over to his house.
She said, I'm going to have something for you when I get home. My mother had forewarned me. And let me tell you something, the punishment that comes when you've been forewarned is a lot worse when you didn't know. And my mother took great effort and time to certainly show me I made the wrong decision. My mother is the meanest person of African descent I have ever known in my life when it comes to that, it comes to that.
She's a sweetheart, loves the Lord, all that kind of stuff. But my mother believes desperately, if you spare the rod, you'll spoil the child. And she quotes scripture. She would quote scripture when she beat us, was the worst part. Example, Proverbs twenty-two 15.
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, right of correction will drive it far from him. She got a broomstick and said, I'm going to beat the fool out of you. And I won't tell you the rest because it's very embarrassing. But nonetheless, conditional prophecy can either be divine intervention or human causality. In that, something has happened and God responds back in a conditional way.
In so doing, what happens is, it's either a matter of correction judgment or faithfulness. If you've been faithful, God will say, if you continue to do this, if you continue to do this, this will happen to you, so on and so forth. So I'm gonna stop here because if I get going, we won't get out till 11:00. But is there any questions on what we covered so far? I know I covered a lot, but any more questions?
Yes, sir.
For for the New Testament believer, what what kind of conditions are are placed placed on us? You know, because we we we can't lose our salvation, so how does that work with the New Testament believers?
You know, there... That's a good question. Because, no, you can't lose your salvation. But let me tell you something, God can make it feel like hell on earth. You know, we see it more in the lives of young people who grew up in the body of Christ and then drift away, and we try to warn them, you know, this is gonna happen, this is gonna happen.
And unless we can snap their attention and get them to hear the eventuality of it all, they're just, they're gonna fulfill scripture. How many times through scripture do we see situations where God basically is saying, if you continue in my word, what's gonna happen? Then are you my disciples indeed. Okay? And there's benefit for being his disciples.
There's a if then. If if you if you can... If you order your life according to God's word, there's an eventuality. If you don't order your life according to God's word, you're going to be the byword of everything that can happen bad in a person's life. I was dumb.
I just believed the Bible. I thought that, you know, God meant what he said. Follow me and you... This will happen to you. You don't follow me, this is gonna happen.
I just trusted God. And I'm gonna be honest with you, there's no great shakes about what Dwight is and what Dwight has gathered out of this. But I can tell you, absolutely with a great deal of pride, God keeps his word. If you follow God's word, you follow it and be faithful to it. I'm not saying that anybody's perfect but Christ.
But if you follow his word with all your heart, do your best, do your level headed best to honor him with your life, everybody will know it. Everybody will know it. God
will
give you the best that the kingdom of God has to offer. And if you don't, you'll get the worst. Yes, sir? Oh no. Abide.
Abide in him. Yeah, it's... But I
just wanted you to pick your palm
54:42 Faithful God keeping his word
God works with a redeemed heart to make the effects of his life miraculous. Ray, you know it, sometimes we're up and we're preaching a prepared message and then all of a sudden God will just drop a nugget in your heart and I call it instantaneous inspiration. And God would just, you just come out of your mouth and say, wow, where did that come from? And that's way God is. God is willing to work with the faithful and with the righteous in such a way, even at a young age, God will just, you'll just avoid all the headache in life, all the foolishness.
It just bypasses you. You know, I was saying to my wife before we got married, I went to Casseck High Schools, one of the most prominent schools in the nation when I was there. And my graduating class, ready for this, was 1,800. And here's a school that if you got a B minus, you were put on probation. Okay?
And my graduating class was 1,800. By the time I was 25, there was only four thirty of us left. Now, know, forty years later, almost forty years later, there's about 100 of us left. And all the believers I knew, all the believers I knew that were believers in high school, they're still alive. They're still living for the Lord.
But I can't say that about everybody else. And I believe it's one thing. It's not good genes, it's not eating right, it's not going to the doctor twice a year, it's the faithfulness of God. I mean, just the pure faithfulness of God. It pays to serve Jesus.
I mean, really, it pays to serve Jesus. I'd rather have five minutes of God's blessing on my life than the whole state of Texas dug out 50 feet deep, full with gold coins and my name on every one of them. I'd rather have five minutes of blessing on God's. I'd rather see somebody repentantly give their life to Jesus Christ. I'd rather pray with a family and watch their loved one come to the Lord.
I'd rather see the light go on in a 13 year old's eyes when I talk about the wonder of Jesus and he wants to serve him for the rest of his life. I'd rather see that than anything else. God's faithful. He is absolutely faithful, and he's on my side, and I'm his favorite. So, I don't know what rest of y'all gonna do, but I'm his favorite.
57:54 Prophetic living, burning bush
What did he see? What did he see? Something he saw. No. No, that's 33.
Three. What do you see in Exodus three?
Three. Burning bush.
The burning bush. Now, let's just parse that out a bit. Moses saw a bush that was on fire that was not burning. We call it the burning bush, but burning means it's being consumed. Right?
Was the bush being consumed? The energy that it took to keep the fire going was not required of the bush to supply. God had completely consumed the person of that bush without using the energy of the bush to keep the fire going. Okay? The leaves were still green, the branches were still brown, the flowers were still budding on that bush, but it was on fire, a living contradiction.
Now, what God was saying in essence was, Moses, I don't need the energy of your life to do the work of the Lord in your life. I'm going to be the fire, I'm going to be the energy that keeps your life going. And so what happens when you get to the end of Moses' life? The Bible says, his natural force was not abated and his eyes were not dim. You know why?
For the last eighty years, he wasn't living off the energy of Moses. He's living off the energy of Jehovah, and that's what God wants. He wants to captivate some heart that says, use me. God God says, I will, but I won't take. I don't need the energy of your life to keep my will and my work going.
And that's what God is saying. I'll use you, but I won't use you up. I want I want to fill you and consume you. So at a 120 years old, Moses still went 40. I know Charlton Heston was all gray and had beard and everything, that wasn't Moses.
What did Caleb say? He said, I started forty five years ago and I'm just as strong, just as powerful at 85 as I was at 40. Give me the mountain. I'm bored. Give me the mighty men of Anakim And that's what that's what God is saying to every heart.
I want to use you without using you up. I want you to be the vessel, but the excellency of the power is not of you, but it's of God. We we we've been teaching kids that it's boring to serve Jesus. No. Oh, man.
I giggle when I get up in the morning. God is gonna do something great. This is the day that the Lord has made. We have one recourse. What is it?
Rejoice and be glad in it. And saints, I'm sorry, I'm a stay on the Lord's side. That's the only guarantee. Father, we thank you for this time we had together. We praise you that your people come out.
We pray that what was said might be a blessing to them. All the things that are like you and of your spirit, we pray that we'll stick to their heart and all the things that are not like you and out of your spirit that they would dismiss. Please dismiss us from this place, not from your presence. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen.
