Outline and transcript

0:00 Last session of this conference

Now we've come to the last session of this conference. I thought what we're gonna do since we have married couple as well as some families and young adults I see here. I'm gonna take this message and I'm gonna make it general. It's gonna apply for the married couples, but also it's gonna apply individually too. And and the message is this, how does Satan use some strategies to deviate you from that which is sacred when that which is holy before God?

0:39 The fallen world and our enemies

Remember, we have learned in the scriptures that we have enemies in terms of our flesh, the world, and Satan. We're struggling against these three things, don't we? We struggle against our flesh. We struggle against the world because we've been called out of the world. We are in the world but not off the world.

We don't get in tune with the world. We've been told to be separate unto the Lord. And then we also struggle with Satan and his tactics. So today, I'm gonna be looking as we look at the words in from the word, how Satan can mesmerize you and ultimately lead you to be a person who would walk away from the Lord. When we were away from the Lord, When I was away from the Lord, we obeyed Ephesians two.

2:09 Wandering and dead in sin

We were doing everything according to his order, according to his pleasure. But then we were dead in sin. We were totally lost in sin. Ephesians two verse six and seven says, He that is Lord Jesus made us alive. You see, we were not only dabbling in sin but we were dead in sin.

So he took dead people and made us alive. Think about that, the the gravity of it. You... We were dead. We were no good.

But he took us not only he redeemed us, but he regenerated us. He made us alive. And one day, he's gonna present us to the father to reign with him. You see? Redeemed us, regenerated us, and one day we're gonna reign with him.

3:24 Subjected to Satan's strategies

Three places took place on this earth. And the final one I'm gonna discuss would be the place that that encounter took place in the heavens. Okay? Now if you are those people who would take notes, I want to take notes on four things. And this is gonna be an important thing because you can apply these principles when you've been tempted, when you are swayed by Satan, when you are feeling that you're walking with the Lord.

Look at these four things, and you will see how you can come out victoriously even as Satan tempts you or when he just jeopardizes your walk with the Lord. First of all, Satan always has an aim. He has a target. When he comes and attacks you, he has an aim. He has a target.

Okay? Second, he always has ammunition or a weapon to attack. Third, he has a purpose or he has an agenda. He doesn't come out of the blues. He comes to us with a specific purpose.

He has an agenda. Thank God. God has blessed us with a defensive mechanism. He's given us an antidote. We have an antidote.

Okay? Even though Satan has an aim or a target, he has a weapon when it comes to us or also when he has an agenda, God has protected us. He has given us a defense, an antidote, a mechanism, a tool in our hands so we can encounter Satan and be victorious. He has not left us alone so we can suffer and be disintegrated. So brethren, he has given us that defense.

So we're gonna look at that those four things. And all of our lifetime encounters with Satan can be summarized with these four things. Remember this one. Children, young adults, and adults, there's no excuse for us not to face Satan when we know his tactics because we have a defense. Okay?

6:29 Eve's direct encounter with Satan

We've been looking at Adam and Eve. In fact, we've been looking at the marriage that the lord established in Genesis chapter two. Let's go over to Genesis chapter three. Genesis chapter three. It is interesting how the chapter begins, isn't it?

Just after the lord gave command to the man, he gave a command to the man about his desire regarding the tree. I believe he must have spoken to Eve about it. I hope so. Because if you look at that before the fall, the Lord God called Adam and said, watch out. In chapter three begins like this, now, when you hear the word now, another caution.

Watch out. Now, this morning we were talking about, the word but, b u t. It's a word of hope. We learned yesterday that when you have a word called therefore, watch out. A word of exhaustion...

Ex... Exhortation, a word of admonition. When the word now is used, watch out because there's an event that's going to take place. You have to be careful. The Lord is trying to teach you something.

The servant was more cunning than any beast of the field. Brethren, Satan does not come the way that we picture in our mind. He's very subtle, right? If you see some of the books in the library or perhaps even Christian stores, Satan with black dress with little horns and a pitch work, I would fire the artist. He doesn't look like that anymore.

He's very subtle. He's very subtle. He comes and crawls amongst us. He's very intelligent, very astute because he's not there to appear physically to damage you, he's there to appear spiritually to take away your soul, Take away your walk. Take away your fellowship from the Lord.

That's the reason it's it's wonderful the way the Holy Spirit mentions that the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, has God indeed said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden, but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, you shall not eat it nor shall you touch it lest you die. Then the servant said to the woman, you will not surely die, for God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. And you know what happened after that?

The first person in the bible that you see who came in direct in contact with Satan was Eve. So what was the target? What was what was he trying to target? What was his aim? He was trying to target Eve's mind.

That was his target. Satan was targeting Eve's mind. Turn with me to second Corinthians chapter 11 and verse three. You see a very important comment made in second Corinthians. By the way, the best commentary for the Old Testament is the New Testament.

Okay? Look at second Corinthians chapter 11. He talks about that about Eve. And it applies to all of us because Satan is busy targeting our minds. That's where he wants to work.

I'm sorry, give me a little time here. I'm getting stuck. But I fear less somehow as the servant deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. There you see it. Satan was targeting Eve's mind.

How did he do that? See what happened when he targeted the mind, he was trying to dissuade evil Eve from from the scriptures. Right? What did he say? He was trying to ask her the question, Satan is good as he attacks your mind to question your mind.

Did he say that? Did really God mean what he said? Questions sometimes can be very subtle, can also be very deceitful too. Watch out. Watch out when you have people who are trying to question the word of God and give you other altered answers because that is a Satan's tactics because he's working on the mind.

So first thing he said actually, did God really tell you? And then in verse four, see that he denies the word of God. No. He didn't tell you that. You have misunderstood that.

No. No. No. No. He can be so unkind.

He cannot be so discriminatory. He cannot be so differential. Oh, you can do you can do what you want. After all, he has created you to enjoy this place. First, when he works on your mind, he questions the word of God.

Second thing, he denies the word of God. And finally, he does? He substitutes the word of God with a lie. See, what was Eve's answer? She left out the word.

The Lord told us to eat freely. King James version says, freely. In other words, it says, surely. That word, Eve forgot to remember. God gave us freedom to do things yet he's put us in boundaries.

He's given us bright lines in life. We gotta watch that. She forgot. She set herself for Satan because she was not in the world. So target was Eve's mind.

And what was the weapon he's trying to use there? The lie. Lie was his ammunition. Brothers and sisters, Satan is a father of lies. He will lead you astray because he's full of lies.

We need to watch. We need to be vigilant. Stick to the word. Do not listen to the lies of devil because that's his weapon. Weapon to destroy your mind.

That's his target. That's so true in our marriage, isn't it? Satan comes, messes up our marriage because he's messing up our minds as couples. He's bringing all kinds of lies into a relationship, all kinds of distorted ideas into fellowship of two people. Among young people, watch out.

Watch out is the mind of young people can be mesmerized by the lies of Satan. It's very important. Stick to the word, and you'll see the benefits and the fruits. What was his agenda there? What was the purpose of Satan to attack Eve's mind?

He was trying to make her ignorant of the scriptures. Very important. So the mind is the target, the weapon of the ammunition was a lie. And what was the agenda? To get her away from the scripture.

Keep her ignorant about the scriptures. That's his purpose. His purpose is so intellectual, so subtle, he would come into our lives to take us away from the scriptures and depend on other ideologies outside the scriptures. Because they're very appealing, aren't they? They're very doable.

They're very enjoyable. Satan leads you that way. He said, no. You don't have to listen to God's word. That was written four thousand years ago.

I mean, that is antiquated. You gotta live here and now. You don't need God's word. Just just be ignorant. Just just pressure it aside.

Satan's purpose is to keep you ignorant, the word of God. And you see that, isn't it, in Eve's life? She forgot what God told her, and she became the victim of Satan's strategy. But what's the defense there? What what kind of defense do we have when Satan comes and attacks our mind?

We have the inspired word of God. It's available in our hands. Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against the Lord. Are we hiding his word in our hearts? His inspired word of god.

Am I hiding it? Am I taking the word so seriously that when I wake up in the morning, when I'm about doing my job, when I'm in the family, with my spouse, alone by myself, do I have his word? The inspired word. That's the difference God has given us. Brothers and sisters, Satan is at work.

Let's make it a point to hide God to our heart and not to deviate from that because his word is a doublet sword. And you see again in the New Testament when Satan encountered the Lord Jesus, what did he do? He used the scriptures. He is the author of the scriptures, but he was so humble. He was such an example for us.

He said, it is written. It is written. He didn't say, I said it. He said, it is written. Immediately, he set an example for me and to each one of us that we need to use our defense, our antidote in large doses of scriptures.

That's very important. It's very important. That word antidote makes a lot more sense to me because in my profession we use that a lot. We use a lot of medications. I know for sure it works.

Why? Because we've tried it. Why? Because it's been through series of research mechanisms. I want to tell you the word of the lord works.

Stay in the word of god. One of the things that I do, Jenny and I, we do for our children when we text them, we tell one thing which I learned from my dad is to... Before we say, I love dad and mom, say, stay in the word. Stay in the word. It's very important.

Young people, stay in the word. Alright. Second person. Somebody already gave the answer to that. Who's the second person?

19:08 Job's encounter with Satan

So, I had to hurry up here. Otherwise, I'll be going on. We're to quickly read a few verses from Job chapter one and here's another time when Satan has a direct contact with Job and This time he has a contact with Job in a whole different setting. There was a a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job and the man was blameless, upright, and the one who feared God and shunned evil. So, here we see a perfect person who's living under the grace of god doing everything that is appealing, that was pleasing before the lord.

He was fearing the lord and he had shunned evil in him and so what happened Verse six, now there was a day when the sons of God came to present them before... Themselves before God and Satan also came among them. Verse seven, and the Lord said to Satan, from where do you come? See, Satan has been running around the world, isn't it? He's always busy at work.

But remember, when Satan is busy at work, thank God that he sets the boundaries. He sets the boundaries. So Satan answered, the Lord said, from two and four on earth and from walking back and forth on it. Then the Lord said to Satan, have you considered my servant Job? That there is none like him on earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and shines evil.

So here God took pride in Job. He said, have you ever seen him? Well, I'm sure Satan had seen him. Satan doesn't miss anybody who is following the Lord. He's busy.

He's got targets. He's got his people. He's got his demons. He's got his little messenger. If you have a chance to read a book by CS Lewis called Screw Dead Letters, you will see a beautiful picture of these things.

You know, how Satan has a schemes and strategies to attack and wreck and ruin believers. So the Lord said, have you seen Job? He said, oh yes, I've seen him. Well, what's the point? You know, you you you are really insolent him.

You've you've really have kept him safe. I mean, he's got everything good going for him, isn't it? I mean, he's safe, he's secure, he's got earthly possessions and he's having a nice life, a good health, a nice family, lot of children, he's got possessions, why can he not be? He's surely happy, content, fearing you, shunning evil. See, Satan knows our current status.

What was he targeting this time? He told God, just let him loose. Just take away your hands. I'll see who Job is. Isn't it wonderful that the Lord, when he lets Satan tempt us and try us, he puts the boundaries.

He said, you can do everything. You can do whatever you want for Jim, but you cannot touch his life. When God allows us to go through the furnace, his finger is on the thermostat. That's wonderful. Isn't it?

He would never let us go through trials and tribulations beyond our abilities because his finger is on the thermostat. He loves us so much. So he would... He he allowed Job to have two different calamities in life. One, took away...

Satan had the opportunity to take away all the possessions, his family. The second time, Satan came back again. He asked, well, you've got his body. He's got a good health. Why don't you give me his body?

And the lord was so pleased with Job. God granted Satan to touch his body, but not his life. So Satan goes to work. So what was the aim this time? His body.

Satan targeted Job's body. And you know what happened with that? His body was afflicted. His body was maimed. Often I wonder why did he have to talk about the body?

Why did... Why does Satan affect your body? Why does he want to target your body? And I think it's because three reasons and all three of them are scriptural. First of all, our body is a temple of God and the spirit.

Right? It's a temple of God and of the spirit. You see that in the, New Testament. Second Corinthians chapter four verse seven. So he's busy to wreck and ruin your body.

By doing so, he's gonna distract you from becoming wretched, to become unholy, to become shameful. So young men, adults, watch for Satan's temptations. Your body is a temple of God. It's not only the temple of God, but it is the treasury of God. Right?

You see that in second Corinthians four seven. I'm sorry, the first reference should have been one Corinthians three sixteen as the temple of God. Our body is also a treasury of God. Second Corinthians chapter four seven, we are... We have this great treasure in our older vessels.

It's our treasure. The Lord cherishes our bodies because he's given us this important treasure, the message of good news. So he... It is the temple of God. It's the treasury of God.

And finally, it is also the tool that God would use. You see that in Romans six thirteen. He is given us a body as an instrument to use for his glory even as we harbor this message, the truth, the truth of the lord Jesus. So no wonder Satan is very interested to wreck and ruin your body. And what was his target there?

I'm sorry, what was his weapon? His weapon was suffering. You see what happened to Job, isn't it? He brought about... It brought about suffering.

The body affliction brought about suffering in his life. When I was doing some studies on suffering and I was talking to my wife, there are two kinds of sufferings that I think in the scriptures that is very clear. One is a corrective suffering. The Lord is trying to chasten my heart to correct me by bringing about some kind of affliction. Right?

You see that in Psalms. You see that in the life of Jonah. When Jonah disobeyed God, God chastened him. He suffered because he was disobedient. Corrective suffering.

Yet another suffering would be perfecting suffering. God is to under perfect in me something to become more like his son. That is a perfecting suffering. It's a difficult topic to understand. Why do we have suffering?

The best answer I can come with is these two. Corrective suffering and perfective suffering. When Paul begged God to take away those afflictions he had three times, the Lord said, my grace is sufficient for you. And Paul realized that, isn't it? More gladly can I say now that even in my suffering, I will be able to exalt because he understood that the Lord was working, perfecting him to become more the Christ?

Oh, that should be our desire to desire that which is perfecting, that which would lead to be making us more like his son even if it takes a perfecting suffering. So Satan uses a weapon called suffering. And what was he targeting? He was targeting to make Job impatient. Isn't it so true that when we go through suffering, we become impatient?

He was trying to bring about impatience in Job. Look at the scenarios that were created around Job. While he was suffering, even his spouse said, why don't you curse and die? Impatience. Because Job's wife started questioning God.

Point number one among... In in that section section is that impatient sometimes breeds unbelief. Remember that. When we are going through suffering, brothers and sisters, let's be patient because patient worketh God's mission in our life. We need to pray for patience.

Impatient also sometimes can be a measure of our immaturity. Both of which, satan is very much interested, isn't it? To make us impatient and to make us to be immature in our walk with the Lord. So his purpose was to make him immature... Excuse me, impatient.

Job was not. He stood the test. He was triumphant. So what is the defense? The analogue we have here?

When Satan makes us impatient as he brings about this weapon of suffering, we have the imparted grace of God. He gives us grace after grace. Isn't it amazing? God has given us grace even as we go through suffering to be able to stay put even as we suffer because his grace is sufficient for us. We have suffering grace, the grace that allows to sing, singing grace.

That's what happened Paul and Simon and Paul and Silas when they were in the prison. They were able to sing God's grace even though they were suffering. Ultimately, we have a throne of grace. Be able to enjoy focusing on him, the one who sits on the throne. He's all gracious to us.

So we have Job who had been targeted by Satan to affect his body, and the weapon he used was suffering. And the purpose is to create impatience, and the defense or the antidote is the imparting grace of God. Let's go to third one now. This is an interesting one. Let's turn our Bibles to first Chronicle chapter 21.

30:49 David's encounter with Satan

And here he is, waiting a disaster to happen. Chapter 21 verse one. Now, Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel. What did what did Satan do? He tempted David.

Oh my goodness, king David, you have everything well going for you. You won all the battles. You've expanded your kingdom. You you you're on the top of the world. I mean, there's no one like you.

So it's time for you to do something what God did not want you to do. Why don't you just number Israel? If you look at the history in the scriptures, the nation of Israel were... Would go through annual census. Right?

It's in the in chronicles. Once a year, they were numbered, and each of the family would bring in 10 as a redemptive money to the temple. Only once a year, not more than that was God's command. Here we see Satan meets up with David and tells him, why don't you go ahead and take a census? I mean, you gotta feel good.

You need to have a good press release. You need to have your popularity being really exploded. Go ahead and do it. So what did David do? He called his general And Joab.

And Joab was not a godly man either. He chose a man actually who was not walking with the lord. He tells him, well, Joab, it's time for us to do some work. Before the next press release, I want Israelites to be numbered. I want to show how strong and how mighty and how good, how sufficient, how great.

Not instigated by God, but by Satan. So what was he targeting? David's will, his pride. He was targeting his pride. Think about it.

Can we identify and relate ourselves with this? Satan can be very subtle to come back and coax your self sufficiency, your self achievements, your self worth. Watch out, brothers and sisters. That is the vitamin from the enemy to destroy you, to take away from the Lord's fellowship. So his target was will, the pride.

And if you look at the first seven verses of Chronicle chapter 21, you see that he does go and take the census and then he gets the message. The Lord tells David, well David, you sinned against me. Now you have three choices. Three choices, right? Three years of famine, three months of being defeated by your enemies continuously, or three days to come under my direct sword.

You know, one thing I like about David, that David was a man of repentance. He loves the lord. He repented. Immediately repented. You know, that's the reason I think god honored David through whom he brought his son to the world.

He merely repented. He don't he don't see that Eve but David repented. He said, Lord, I will face a sword from my hand. Even though it caused seventy people to die, seventy thousand people to die. He faced the consequence.

So he was struck by God. So his target, Satan's target was his pride, will rather, target was a will. The weapon that Satan used was David's pride. He brought about pride in him. And what was his purpose?

He's to make David independent of God's will. You see, he took things in his own hand. My bible doesn't say that David consulted God. Satan came, told him take your censors, immediately went and obeyed Satan. He did not consult God.

How true it is in our lives, isn't it? When pride lurks at our door, we become independently become independently autonomous to be able to do our own things. Watch out. Satan wants to accomplish purpose to make us independent of God's will. Young men and women, watch out for that.

When you get into relationships, when you're pursuing careers, it is so good to seek dependency on God. To seek his will, not our will. It might sound very very appealing. It might be very lucrative. It may be very attractive.

Watch out. Watch out. Satanist purposing in your heart to become independent of God's will. So what is the antidote? What is the defense that he has given us?

He has given us his indwelling spirit. Thank God we have the Holy Spirit. He has given us not only to come and go but the the spirit of the Lord as you have come to the Lord Lord Jesus as savior. He's now dwelling in us. The indwelling of the spirit would lead us to all truth.

And the truth is to exercising the fruit of the spirit. And the fruit of spirit is not pride. It's joy. It's to be humble, to be long suffering, to become more like the Lord Jesus. That's where he's gearing us to go, isn't it?

Indwelling spirit actively wants to work in our heart to make us dependent on the Lord. To shun our pride so that he must increase. The Lord Jesus must increase. And my pride needs to vanish. So he is in the business of conforming to the very image of dear savior.

Oh, how I pray that each one of us would allow the holy spirit, the indwelling of the spirit to be completely in control of our lives so that we would shun pride. We would have his spirit modify our will so that we can become dependent upon the lord. Okay? So, the aim of Satan was to attack David to get his will. The target, excuse me, the perp...

Weapon was pride, and the purpose is to make you independent of God's will. Thank God we have a defense, the invading spirit. The last one, Ray, can I take five more minutes? The last one is found in Zechariah's chapter three. Zechariahs chapter three the first five verses.

39:44 Joshua's vision in heaven

So did Job. So did David. Here we see a situation in Zechariah chapter three verse one. Then he showed me that is Zechariah's vision. He's seeing a vision here.

He showed me Joshua, the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. I want you to imagine with me this vision here. You have Joshua, not the Joshua who led the Israelites into the promised land. This is the high priest who was being elected by God for the people, for the Israelites people when they came out of Babylon. So this is a post Babylonian exodus.

When they came back to the land, they started sinning against God. They forgot what had... What God had done. And during that time, Joshua, the high priest, was serving at the temple. So you see Zechariah is seeing Joshua standing before God, and then you have Satan also present in the presence of the Lord.

Now, often I wonder how is that Satan is present before the lord? Think about it. The answer is yes. Satan has for a limited time presence or the access into the direct presence of God. Until I believe the mid tribulation time.

When he will be bound for a thousand years. Till then, has an access to God's presence. Why? Because he's an accuser. Remember?

He's not only the father of lies, when he get caught in sin, he would accuse you. He said, see what happened to you now? You sinned against God. He's a great accuser. That's what he was doing.

Standing before God and accusing Joshua about the sins of Israelites. So what was what was Satan trying to aim at that? What was his target? The target is the heart. He's trying to target our heart.

He was trying to target Joshua's heart. Because we see that if you read the latter part of that chapter three, he says that his garments were filthy. They were stained. They were dirty. They were dirty because of sins of Israelites.

God was try. Zechariah was seeing the filthiness upon Joshua because he was carrying the filth, the heart that was filthy before God. And so what was Satan doing? Look at you. You're filled with filth.

You don't deserve to stand before God. So it's interesting that when Satan tempts you, he lets you to sin. But when you sin and and stuck in sin, he's the same person who comes back and accuses you. He's father of all lies, yet he's also an initiator of accusers. So he targets your heart.

And what was his weapon? Accusations. Do you experience that? When you have come to know the Lord as your personal savior, when you've been washed by the blood of the Lord, when you've been indwelled the spirit of God, Satan is not done with you, dear friends. He will come back and tell you, you shouldn't be going to church.

You shouldn't be having fellowship with the fellow saints. Look what you did when you were 16 years old. Look what happened to your previous life, your sinful life. You don't deserve it. You're a sinner.

Such is the accusation of Satan. He is an accuser. See, you use as a weapon to accuse you. And what's his agenda? To bring about an indictment before God.

He's looking at to bring a formal charge against you before the throne of grace. Oh, thank God we have a weapon. And who was standing there? You see, the son of God, the interceding savior stands before the father interceding on my behalf. Excuse me.

When I'm caught in sin, I'm not helpless because we have a savior who stands before the lord and indeces on our behalf. You see, one John one two is is so true. One John one eight, if I confess he is ready to forgive me because we have an interceding savior. Because we are fallen people. Even as Satan accuses us, my friends, take courage.

We have an interceding savior who would look at him and he would say, I have accomplished on the cross. You have no business to touch the brother or sister. The target is the heart. The purpose... Excuse me, the weapon is accusation.

The purpose is to indict before God and see how worthless we are. But we have a savior who's insisting on our behalf. As a father looks at us, he would look at me through the work of Christ, and he would say that he is forgiven. My son has interceded on his behalf. So let's take courage that when Satan comes with his target, with his weapon, and with a purpose, we have a great defense.

46:30 Our defense: word, spirit, grace, savior

Stay in the word. Enjoy his grace. Be led by the spirit and look up to the savior because your heart is here. Let's pray. Oh father in heaven, we are so grateful to you that you have given us everything that pertains to life and the deviations of life in the word in your scriptures.

It is infallible. It's inspired by you. We thank you that even as Satan comes and attacks us, we have the defensive mechanism that you established. And father, we ask you that if anybody here in this room who do not know you as their personal savior, this is the time. There is hope.

And the hope is only found in Christ. And father, I pray that they would be able to come to that. Grip of Christ in their life. That they would be able to stand up for you. I pray for all the marriages.

Pray for people that you will bless them. As my heart is heavy for so many marriages, I pray that Satan would not have the handle because you've given us your word. You've given us your spirit. You've given us grace sufficient enough for us. So bless us.
