Outline and transcript

0:00 Rebellion against God is ridiculous

You're part of the rebellion against God and it's pointedly ridiculous. January 22, John Woodhams covered Psalm 51 and David's broken relationship. Most of the Psalms that we look at, we we see the close relationship that God... David had with the Lord. The dependence, the the praise, And yet, by the time David's king for a long time and the kings are supposed to go out and make war and so forth, in the spring of the year he's looking for trouble and he found trouble.

And what we saw there was a callousness that had developed against sin and against the Lord. And David had to be broken and convicted of that. So that's Psalm 51. John pointed out that that David, instead of addressing God as my God, he said, oh God. He knew that that relationship had been damaged severely.

Then in February, I had I had notes that Bruce Henning spoke to us about Psalm 118. We'll we'll have a song from there. And very soon in fact, February 16, Chris Schroeder talked to us about Psalm 27 and he gave us the illustration of the fear that he had of a kid at school. You remember that? Remember that story?

Eddie Dubienski, who was ferocious and just would tear anybody up. And so, we looked at Psalm 27, of course, Eddie Dubienski was Deb's cousin and there is definitely a relationship.

Anyway,

that was a beautiful story and it fits right into that song. Was like, Fear not. I know a song to that but I don't have music, so it's like the music's in the locked away in the head. March 2, Andy Hilton talked about Psalm one zero seven and that Psalm emphasizes, oh that men would give thanks to the Lord. Remember that one?

With the... Those that go down to the sea in ships, and then describing the perils on the sea and how they turn to the Lord and the Lord saves them. We have the calming of the sea even in the New Testament with the Lord Jesus, and that's Psalm one twenty seven. Psalm one zero seven. March 9, Jeff Jeff Takis came and and talked about Psalm 22 and that's a messianic Psalm.

And we see the cross and we see the suffering of the cross and that Christ was forsaken, that stands out. March 16, Ray Gonzales talked about Psalm 23 and these these Psalms are a set. And Psalm 23, we're familiar with. We'll sing that later. But we had reference to the book, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23.

So if you catch the book, you'll see a lot of the illustrations that Ray went to. I had to go find it in my library too. It's like, oh, I know that. March 23, Nathan Morris brought us Psalm 24. And the thing that I had in my notes that I wanted to to share with you is that God is most glorified in us.

Nathan gave us this. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

God is most glorified in us

4:06 Reviewing previous lessons and songs

the end.

It was just the idea of reviewing some of these things. Bob Markovich gave us Psalm a 119 and a good lesson on how to look at the Psalm using the Hebrew alphabet and that is... There are two verses that are exceptions. Right, Bob? That do not have a reference to the law of God, the statutes, the commandments, that kind of thing.

Very cleverly presented. And then Scott Dome, like I said, Scott Doan on Mother's Day presented Psalm one twenty seven, and we have the Mother's Day video. Anybody remember the gist of that? What was going on with that?

I do.

All that money you're making. It'd be twenty four hours a day, seven days a week and no pay. So... But some... From Psalm one twenty seven from Scott, we learned that God must be the site manager of your home.

Isn't that cool? I thought, if the lord is the one overseeing our homes and our families and we are careful to that, then the blessing of the lord has to follow. And it may come with a lot of trials. Nobody's saying there aren't trials. But we're on the right path.

We're on, Nathan. Oh, birthdays. Yes. We did have birthdays. We got welcome here too.

Sorry. I have it all listed. I just don't read.

Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday. God bless you Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to you Only one will not do Take Christ as your savior and then you'll have to. Okay.

That means you have a second birthday too. Great to have a time that you know you trusted the Lord. And the welcome son. Welcome mom.

There's a welcome here There's a welcome here There's a Christian welcome Here hallelujah We believe God's word Honor Christ as Lord As a Christian, welcome here

Okay, we can... The Sunday school kids can... Two youngest grades. Families? Two youngest grades go?

Okay.

7:56 Singing Psalm verses quoted by Jesus

Beautiful. This is the... These are the verses that Jesus quotes in Matthew 21 and verse 42, if you wanna look it up. And in there, he says to the to the Pharisees, you've rejected the stone that God has provided, and God has made himself the chief cornerstone. And then he says to them, so the kingdom is taken away from you and given to a nation worthy of it, and that's us.

That is us. This is... And then the first follows, this is the day that the Lord has made, the Lord's doing. And so we have the day of salvation, the day of redemption wrapped up for us, Gentiles, in those statements. And so this song took on totally new meaning for me other than, you know, this is the day...

Great day that the Lord has made. Yeah, it's beautiful out there, But this is the day that we live in, it's the day of grace that the Lord Jesus has provided by his death on the cross for us. That's powerful. Okay. This is an echo song and we'll be the echo and Nathan will lead that side with the origin.

Okay? Is a... Do you want...

This is an echo song?

This is a day. This is a day. By the way, let me see that. This is what being glad and rejoicing looks like. Alright?

Especially if

you had a nice juicy ant to eat.

Okay. The This day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad it this is the day that the lord has made we will rejoice and be glad in it this is the day that the lord has made Alright.

I just wanted to put that emphasis on there because those verses are grouped together in the Psalm and then Jesus quotes them and then we're included in it. We're the nation of of royal priesthood, a royal priesthood, Peter says. So moving right along, we'll go to how majestic is your name. And I think of this one as... This is from Psalm eight, Michael W.

Smith, and we should be pretty familiar with this, but David actually looked up into the heavens and saw the majesty of God. Now I didn't put moon and stars there, as David mentions in the song, because I thought it wouldn't show up too well. And we didn't look those things up. We looked at some other pictures. Deb?

I think those are weeds. You know, you look, they're down on the... Isn't that incredible? I mean, they're living down there. They're not planting flowers up on the hill like that, but it's...

That was really beautiful. So, how majestic is your name?

All set? Are we gonna read first?

Oh, we're gonna read. Sorry. Verse nine? Yes. Okay.

Praise your name magnify your name prince of peace mighty god god almighty

14:32 Praise and exaltation of God

The lord lives. Blessed be my rock. Bless the god of my salvation be exalted.

This is an echo song but in between is the accounting of what God had done to help David escape from Saul. And so, you know, we we don't have anybody throwing spears at us and have that necessary terror that comes with that, but we also can understand what it means to be afraid and to call on the Lord. So this is an echo and it gets a little tricky, doesn't it? I have to watch that.

Will call upon the Lord The Lord liveth and blessed be the rock Let the God of my salvation be exalted. The Lord live it and blessed be the rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted. Let's do that again.

Beautiful. Beautiful. Now we have a very special treat from Jordan and Diana Williams... Woodhams. And they will share with us, you are my hiding place, and this comes from Psalm 32.

Mason, you're up. Thank you so much. That's all you need to take away. In my hiding place. I think those little birds feel safe.

22:35 Singing the twenty-third song

It's a real privilege to be on this end of your singing. It's really very sweet. We're gonna look at... Let's see. This is the Psalm five.

I guess we have time to do this and not worry about it. Psalm five, David's reverent request to be heard and the fact that David's first thought in the morning is God. And it's, you know, it's it's to me as well as anybody else that needs to sit up on the bed and start your day with the Lord, not with all the stuff

that has to be done.

And it can be pretty demanding sometimes. But... So reverence, cry to the Lord to be heard. Are we doing... We're doing this?

Reading or No. It's it's the first three verses. Oh, well, we had the title thing up there, but first three verses virtually right out of the scripture. So now we'll read it.

Appear to my words, oh lord. Consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my king and my God. For unto thee will I my shall I direct my prayer unto thee and will

29:34 Psalm 51: Clean heart and renewed spirit

And I think that's one of the beauties of this. So I'm gonna read 10 to 12 of this. Verse 10, crave me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Verse 12, restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me by your generous spirit.

Change my heart, oh god. Change my heart, oh god. Thank you. That was great for... We didn't get together on all this, so...

This is an interesting picture of a very interesting artist. Most of the stuff he did looks like this. It's very tall and gaunt. But we have the story when Jesus tells it, you know, in Luke 15. There's three examples.

This is the last one, a prodigal son returning. It's about the father's love. The father saw him afar off and ran to meet him. So it's about god the father and what he did in order to reach us. But change my heart is right there.

Something had to happen to turn from death and evil to go back to life. And the challenge is to understand up on the side of the hill is a cross, and that's a cross with an inscription, so we know exactly who the author or the artist intended. The cross of Christ stands all the evil, the sin was laid on him. And we have with a change of heart, a path back to God. If we have the change of heart, The gospel is that the Lord Jesus was sent by the father.

God, the father sent the son to be the savior of the world. That cost him the cross. Custom rejection by the father. Told the father turn his back on him. That's Psalm 22 when we look at it.

35:01 Thanksgiving for God's word and Son

We thank you for your son. We thank you for the hope that we have in him as believers, that we are a kingdom of priests and that we are that nation that he spoke of, and we rejoice in that. We pray that if there are any here who have not come face to face with the Lord Jesus, who have not had this change of heart, that this day by your spirit may have an impact on their life that they may have that change and come to him in full repentance and acceptance of faith. Thanking you again for your grace. We pray your parting mercies on us.

We thank you that you are the father of example as we are called to be that we might be like you. It's a challenge to us, fathers especially. And we just thank you again for this day. In Jesus name, amen.
